  • Partnerships

The Uwezo initiative is country wide, making strong partnerships with organizations and individuals in all districts to conduct the national survey necessary for the success of the survey.

In recent years, primary school enrollment has increased across East Africa, but are our children really learning? Uwezo aims to answer that question by assessing the basic math and reading skills of more than a quarter million children in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. We hope that ordinary citizens and policy-makers alike will act based on the annual assessment results to improve the quality of education in every community.

The Goal

Uwezo's main goal is to contribute, over the next 4 years,  to an improvement of at least 10 percent in literacy and numeracy levels  among children aged 5-16 years in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
